The Industry Consortium for Advancement of Security on the Internet (ICASI), a nonprofit association dedicated to enhancing global IT security by proactively driving excellence and innovation in security response, is holding a short news briefing via webcast about the recent update to its Common Vulnerability Reporting Framework (CVRF), Version 1.1, on Wednesday, May 30, at noon (Eastern).
Until CVRF was launched, in May 2011, methods of vulnerability reporting in common use -- such as embedding security metric and vulnerability data inside response reports -- were all vendor-specific, non-standard and non-collaborative. Because each producer of vulnerability reports employed a unique document structure that does not facilitate automated processing, users had to parse individual vulnerability reports manually to find information germane to their environments.
ICASI's CVRF was created to solve this problem. CVRF is an XML-based language that enables different stakeholders across different organizations to share critical security-related information in a single format -- speeding up information exchange and digestion. Now, enhancements and new features in CVRF 1.1 increase its flexibility and broaden its usability.
ICASI Members include Amazon.com, Inc., Cisco Systems, Intel Corporation, International Business Machines, Juniper Networks, Microsoft Corporation, Nokia and Oracle.
Register for and attend the CVRF 1.1 news briefing webcast, and you'll hear from ICASI technical leaders about the importance of CVRF and the specifics of Version 1.1, and you'll also be able to participate in a Q & A session at the end.
